ADAM MARK ZACHS
Aged from 24 to 46 years old

Adam Mark Zachs is a convicted murderer who has been on the run since June 1989, when he fled the State of Connecticut while his first-degree murder conviction was on appeal.  Please take a moment to read this web page to see if you can help catch a convicted murderer.

On March 22, 1987, 29-year old Peter Carone had gone to a West Hartford, CT  restaurant/bar with his fiancee.   Twenty-four-year-old Adam Zachs shot and killed Peter Carone by shooting him in the back with 9mm automatic pistol, as he walked away from Zachs during a brief verbal dispute.

On August 23, 1988, after less than two hours of deliberation and with overwhelming evidence presented against him,Zachs was convicted of murder and sentenced to 60 years.

Zachs' attorney immediately appealed the verdict, and was next scheduled to appear in court in June 1989.  Zachs was set free on a $250,000.00 bond, posted by his aunt, Sybil Deitch.  On October 13, 1988, Judge Thomas H. Corrigan set four conditions on Zachs' Appeal Bond:

  1. he "must live with his family;"

  2. he was "not a possess a gun, rifle, etc.;" and

  3. his parents "have the ability to and responsibility of searching [his] belongings and automobile;" and

  4. "[a]ny violation of these conditions would constitute a violation of the conditions of the Appeal Board."

Zachs' immediate family includes his parents, Frederick and Judith Zachs and his siblings Neil Zachs and Lisa Zachs.  His extended family includes his uncle, Henry Zachs, his aunt Judith Zachs and his uncle, William Deitch and aunt, Sybil Deitch.

Facing 60 years in prison, Zachs failed to appear at his scheduled court hearing in June 1989, and on June 27, 1989, the Superior Court issued a warrant for failure to appear.  Shortly thereafter, on July 24, 1989, the U.S. District Court issued a federal arrest warrant charging Zachs with unlawful flight to avoid confinement.

Peter Carone's family and friends would never see him again.  Adam Zachs, a cold-blooded murderer, would never see the inside of a prison, and his freedom would only cost his family $125,000.00.*

* Although Sybil Deitch posted a $250.000.00 bond to secure Zachs' release, she actually only forfeited $125,000.00, because at a bond hearing, her attorney successfully argued that contract law applied, and that since, due to a clerical error, she had not been signed the document containing the four conditions listed above, they were not a part of the bond agreement.  And, since the State stood to lose the full $250,000.00, the State and Sybil Deitch settled for $125,000.00.
